    NENA’s Center Training Officer (CTO) program is a 3-day, student-centered course, which provides attendees the skills to develop a training strategy focused on trainee success in a learnby-doing environment. This course leads to higher telecommunicator performance and retention by providing attendees with the ability to teach to their trainee’s strengths and learning modalities and to solidify a training program’s structure and integrity. Students in this course will be challenged in hands-on learning activities to enhance application of Adult Learning Concepts, Leveraging the Value of a CTO Mission Statement, Mitigate Liability, and embrace their role as a Leader and Coach with knowledge and skill by applying proven coaching models. Attendees in this course will also receive training on building a successful training program, including how to create and use Performance Categories, Daily Observation Reports and weekly summary reports. This course is designed for current and future Center Training Officers, as well as other employees who manage an agency’s Call Center Training Program.

    This course will give new supervisors the skills they need to succeed in their positions. It will give experienced supervisors updated, refreshed skills that will further their careers. Using a combination of lecture and practical exercises, students will learn the supervisor’s role in HR, tools to get organized, how to effectively make the transition from line-level to supervisor, how to build and lead a team, supervisor-specific communications, conflict resolution, performance evaluations, stress management techniques, and many other skills, and tips for their toolbox. This is a 3-day course. In order to fully participate in daily assignments and activities, students should bring a laptop. There are no re-certification requirements for this course.     This essential course for 911 dispatchers is designed to address the unique challenges faced by our ‘first’ first responders. Participants will explore the dynamics of critical incident stress, vicarious trauma, and burnout, gaining valuable insights into their causes and effects. Through interactive sessions and practical exercises, this course provides tools and strategies to build resilience, promote mental health, and sustain well-being. Participants will learn to recognize early signs of stress and trauma, implement effective coping mechanisms, and develop a supportive network among peers. Emphasis will be placed on self-care practices and organizational support systems to foster a healthy work-life balance. By the end of the course, dispatchers will be better equipped to manage the emotional toll of their work, ensuring they can continue to provide vital services to their communities with clarity and compassion.
